Cowichan Micro Wedding on Film

by ehflegg

Alex in profile gazing at Richelle, whose back is to the camera

I’ve shied away from weddings in the past, mostly on account of the heteronormativity and general pressure and excess they often entail (as a queer, I wasn’t even legally allowed to get married myself until 2005. Super fun.) But I love love, and love celebrating it (big fan of anniversary parties), so when I got an email with the subject line “Micro wedding Thursday” I was intrigued.

Family Session at Hinge Park

by ehflegg

For this family session, this family of four was about to move from East Van to North Van where they’re sharing a house with a sibling’s family, which sounds to me like the best party.

Why Film, Pt2 – Film is Intentional

by ehflegg

I’ve talked a lot about why I love film, love shooting it, and so I want to spend a little time talking about why I think YOU should love film. Which is to say, why film is the best choice for you as a client.

Queer Fam at the Beach

by ehflegg

Queer friendship is such a priceless thing, and I am so grateful for these two (plus recent pup addition, Frankie) for being in my life. All three of them are precious creatures, and we had the best time photographing their little queer fam at the beach.

Planning an Outdoor Dinner Party

by ehflegg

Chelsea and Taylor at the outdoor dinner party

While I am a tad skeptical of the wisdom of Dr. Bonnie Henry’s latest directive, if we’re lucky, we’ll be able to gather outdoors in small groups and share food before the summer is out. So as I dream up dinner party menus and bring out the summer shoes (scored nearly new Birkenstocks for $3 at the thrift store this weekend thank you very much) it feel like an excellent time to write about planning and outdoor dinner party.

Why I Take Photos (and why I print them)

by ehflegg

So much of the advice for photographers (really, for any small business owner) is to get super clear on your Why. Mostly I find attempts to write down why I take photos descend into overthinking and general cheese pretty quickly, but I think it’s important to keep talking about what pushes me to take photos so I can better connect with you, dear reader, for whom my reasons (hopefully!) resonate. So I’ll try to keep it together and hopefully we can all get out of here more or less unscathed.

Taking Photos of Christmas Day in Quarantine

by ehflegg

Despite the monster that has been this year and Dr. Bonnie Henry cancelling Christmas telling us to stay safe and stay home, one thing that actually won’t change much is the taking of the photos of Christmas Day.

How to Have Stress-free Family Photos

by ehflegg

A friend recently posted on Instagram about her upcoming family session, asking for tips on how to make the event run smoothly with two small children. A bunch of people posted about ways to keep toddlers in check, offering bribes, coaxing and cajoling, and general encouragement that you can in fact have relatively stress-free family photos.
